Highlights
  • Full-scope delivery: design, fabrication, installation and commissioning of offshore converter platforms for BalWin4 and LanWin1
  • “Design One, Build Many” program approach improves cost and operational efficiency
  • Fabricated at McDermott’s Batam Fabrication Yard in Indonesia
  • Dedicated HVDC fabrication capacity and new block assembly and supporting infrastructure
  • Conversion of up to 2GW of offshore wind-generated electricity from 66 kV AC to 525 kV DC

The 2GW HVDC program includes two HVDC grid connection systems, BalWin4 and LanWin1, each with a capacity of 2GW. This new 2GW standard more than doubles existing transmission capacity and requires fewer connections between offshore wind farms and onshore converter stations, reducing the environmental impact.

The platforms are designed to convert up to 2GW of offshore wind-generated electricity from 66kV AC to 525kV DC. This conversion facilitates efficient transmission of electricity to the onshore station, enabling the integration of renewable energy sources into the power grid at a significant scale.
